Q

Evidences that the plagues were not just coincidences.

A

Moses predicted the coming of each, and it was only at his word that many of them ceased.

There was a sense of orderliness-they were marked by increasing severity.

There was some discrimination- after the first three plagues, the Israelites were completely protected from the suffering involved. 8:22; 9:7; 10:23; 11:7

Q

Pharaoh’s character

A

Pharaoh is an example of the type of person who sets his heart against any conviction from God, and interprets any act of God’s mercy as a sign that God will not, or cannot, enforce His predicted judgements. According to the book of Revelations, this will be the same attitude of many to God’s final judgements.

Q

What does Hyssop represent

A

Faith

As the hyssop plant was used to apply the lambs blood in the OT, so faith applies the blood to the human heart in the NT.

The mere death of the lamb did not automatically save anyone until the blood shed was applied using the hyssop.

A

This festival is kept by the Jews to this day.

Since the crucifixion and resurrection took place in the Passover celebration, it coincides with our Easter celebration.

The New Testament makes it clear that this great event in Egypt speaks of the greater Passover and deliverance wrought by Jesus at Calvary.

Q

Similarities between the Exodus and The Gospel

A

Exodus brought a mighty deliverance for Israel, The Gospel brings a universal deliverance for all who believe.

The Exodus centers on the slain lamb of the Passover, the Gospel centers on “the lamb slain from the foundation of the world”

The Exodus became forever afterwards commemorated in the Passover feast, the Gospel is remembered in the Church and commemorated by the Lords Supper.

The sheltering blood in the Exodus was merely that of an animal, in the Gospel it’s the precious blood of Christ.

In the Exodus many lambs are slain, in the Gospel One is slain for all.

The Exodus was national and therefore limited, the Gospel is universal and available to the whosoever.

The Exodus was deliverance from physical bondage, the Gospel is deliverance from bondage.

One deliverance is temporal, one is eternal.

The first opened a way to an earthly promised
Land, to other to a heavenly land.
