excretion Flashcards
excretion
removal of waste products of metabolism from the body
metabolism
all the chemical reactions that happen in your cell
functions of excretion
maintains homeostasis
maintains normal metabolism
cleanses body from toxic products of metabolism
Harnstoff
urea
steps of excretion in the kidneys
ultrafiltration
selective absorption
expelling unwanted substances
what change is done to loop of henle when dry area
longer –> more resorption of water
diuresis
production of concentrated urine
function of ADH
makes walls of DCT and collecting duct more permeable to water
What does it mean that a patient has glucose in an urine sample?
Glucose influx into the filtrate is occurring faster than it can be reabsorbed (Glucose transporters in the proximal convoluted tubule are saturated)
How does kidney failure result in a compromised oxygen carriage in the blood stream?
kidneys normally produce erythropoietin –> production of red blood cells
Where are brush borders found and function
function: increase surface area (condensed packed microvilli)
found in: small intestine, proximal convoluted tubule, large intestine
urethra
Harnröhre
