Examples of Midrash and other Bible writing styles plus adhoc info Flashcards
Regular church goers are not aware of the “Tricks” and “clever rehashes” that make up our Bible of today.
Example: Jesus is on trial and Pilot decides to punish one prisoner (Jesus) and let the other (Barabbas) go free.
OT: Two goats of Leviticus 16: 7-10. One is punished with death (Jesus) while the other goat (Barabbas) is freed. This is simple Midrash. Never happened in reality but was inserted into Bible for making a better story. This is the story of Yom Kippur. The Bible, especially NT is full of Midrash. It is an old story rewritten to a new generation of people. continued other side of card.
Even today people use a “Midrash” template to fascinate 20th century people.
West Side Story is a rewritten (Midrash) version of Romeo and Juliet.
Pilot freeing Barabbas is rewritten story of Yom Kipper killing one goat the other goat is freed.
Why Bible says Christ wore A crown of thorns
The number one most powerful God ever was Apollo and he wore a crown of spikes sticking out from the crown.
The people who wrote that Jesus wore a crown of thorns (spikes sticking out) wanted to project that he is the top dog of Gods!
When they built the statue of liberty, they wanted her to be the top dog. So they put Apollo’s spiked crown on her head!
Also, all the U.S. moon missions were on Apollo rockets!
Epiphany. Bible says a woman will have child birth labor pains because Eve caused the fall.
This is BS! Child birth is painful because the baby’s head and shoulders are larger than the birth canal.
But the early church just had to include God in this natural process and millions to billions of church goers believe the pain is from God! Genesis 3:16
Also says the husband will be the wife’s master! Yeah right!
