Card 02 Birds to dinosaurs

In the 1860’s in Germany, a 150 million year old Giant Dino bird with feathers, claws and wings was discovered. It’s name is “Archaeopteryx”.

It would hunt flapping its wings to claw back the prey so the bird could eat it. This same motion is the exact flying motion of a bird flying. Thus flight begins!

A

The world at large was very skeptical and demanded more evidence to prove birds were dinosaurs.
In 1960, Paleontologist John Ostrom hit pay dirt. He found a dino fossil with a wishbone! This nailed it to a fact!
He named it “Deinonychus Antirrhopus”.

BR on Birds are Dinosaurs
**Card 01

Source: “When whales walked: Journeys in deep time.
28 time marker. Explains how today’s birds evolved directly from dinosaurs.

The earlier link in the evolution chain was large winged dinosaurs with feathers and claws on their wings, just like a Bat. The feathers had nothing to do with flying. They were for keeping the animal warm. And the claws on the wings were for attacking and killing game for food.

A

Scientists knew there was an evolution link, but they didn;t find the fossiled dinosaurs with a “Wish Bone” until 1960.
For generations these Chinese farmers were finding bird fossils. In China, in the 1990’s, local farmers were promised a full year’s income for ancient Bird fossils. Many farmers dug up their farms and sold the fossils in exchange for a year’s income per fossil. This was the missing link scientists needed to prove modern birds are dinosaurs.
