Inspection
A
eyes approximately the same size
Intermittent misalignment
of the eyes may be normal up to about 4 months. After that needs referral
Constant misalignment
of the eyes is always abnormal at any age – needs a referral
Nystagmus
needs referral at any age
Ptosis
is usually benign and self-limiting but may represent at Horner’s syndrome (check pupils) or be an III palsy (check eye movements and pupils) or be visually significant if reaches the midline. Refer if any concerns
