Dams have been built and reservoirs created on the Sacramento River in the southern region of California.canals and aqueducts carry the Sacramento water south into the San Joaquin valley.the Central Valley scheme has prevented billions of dollars of damage from floods and allowed cities and farms to grow and prosper on the valley floor
Explain the first advantages of this scheme
One advantage is that the San Joaquin valley will no longer be a semi-arid desert region.irrigation water allows for the production of clotted and vegetables,oranges and lemons in the region.the Central Valley has become the richest agricultural region in all USA

A second advantage is that it provides large cities such as lots Angela’s and San Francisco with water.
Name a disadvantage of this scheme
A disadvantage of this scheme is the loss of agricultural land.the reservoirs have flooded some land causing some farmers to abandon their farmland and move to other areas.it was also very expensive to build the dams and the cost of pumping the water is high so that increases the cost of the agricultural produce.the scheme cost the government 1.6 billion to construct

Irrigation is the artificial watering of the land.it involves using pipes,spraying devices and canals to bring water to dry land from wells and reservoirs
