how is the oral cavity developed/separated from nasal cavity
divided from nasal cavity by the medial and lateral palatine processes
how are teeth formed? identify by naming the precursor cells and what derives from them
- dental lamina forms dental bud which expands and forms cup shaped enamel organs
- neural crest mesenchyme forms dental papilla
- neural crest cells differentiate into odontoblasts –> dentin
- inner layer of enamel organs –> ameloblasts –> enamel
- mesenchyme surrounding tooth –> dental sac –> cementoblasts –> cementum
- osteoblasts –> bone of dental alveoli
enamel hypoplasia “distemper teeth”: defect in enamel and can be caused by any insult that perturbs the ameloblasts’ production of enamel
anodontia
complete lack of teeth
congenital absence of teeth
supernumerary teeth: anomalous formation of extra dental buds
heterotopic polydontia / ear teeth
what creates the thyroglossal duct as the tissue near the tongue migrates
thyroid diverticulum
