Location: upper arm, upper legs, abdomen
Intramuscular Injections:
Needle Angle: 90 degrees
Max Volume: 3 mL
Needle Size: 19-23 gauge
Location: ventrogluteal, dorsogluteal, deltoid, vastus lateralis
Describe the location of the deltoid for an injection and what kind of injection would you give there?
Upper arm, finger tips lined up on acromion process spread fingers to make peace sign and injection is given in the middle of fingers. This is for IM injection.
Describe the location of the vastus lateralis for an injection and what kind of injection would you give there?
On the thigh, divided into 3 equal parts. The middle third is where the injection will go. This is for IM injection.
Describe the location of the ventrogluteal for an injection and what kind of injection would you give there?
The heel of your hand on the upper, outer part of the thigh on the bone. Thumb points to the groin and the fingers point towards the head and make a peace sign. Injection is given in the middle of the fingers. This is for IM.
