  • If providers can deter development of secondary sex characteristics, can use lower doses or hormones and avoid surgery

  • GnRH agonists (e.g. Lupron, Synarel, Trelstar)
    • May affect bone growth
    • Used for 3 years before introducing hormones
    • Can also be used to treat precocious puberty
  • Testosterone or estrogen
    • Given in doses that are congruent with their age
