Are puberty delaying options reversible?
A
Yes - want to initiate when child is in Tanner stage 2 before secondary sex characteristics have still not formed
- If providers can deter development of secondary sex characteristics, can use lower doses or hormones and avoid surgery

What three things should the provider consider before hormone therapy in children?
A
- Child is insistent in their gender identity
- Persistence
- Consistency

What specific medications can be prescribed for transgender children?
A
- GnRH agonists (e.g. Lupron, Synarel, Trelstar)
- May affect bone growth
- Used for 3 years before introducing hormones
- Can also be used to treat precocious puberty
- Testosterone or estrogen
- Given in doses that are congruent with their age
