What is atopic dermatitis?
Aka eczema - chronic relapsing inflammatory skin disease
Eczema patient presentation
Itchy rash, dry skin
Where does eczema typically present?
Flexural regions (knees, elbow, ankles, wrist, neck)
What is the atopic triad?
Allergic rhinitis, asthma, eczema
Eczema management
- Daily emollient and moisturizer
- Shower with tepid water (not hot)
- Free and clear detergents (no fragrance or dyes)
- Cetirizine
- Topical steroids (medium steroid usually; lower for face)
What is keratosis pilaris?
Variant of normal skin - tiny bumps and patches in skin on back of arms, anterior thigh, face, cheeks, or buttocks
What is the cause of keratosis pilaris?
- Build up of keratin at follicle
- Dry skin makes it worse
Keratosis pilaris
- Daily moisturizer
- Anti-keratolytics (Amlactin)
- Retin-A
What is verruca vulgaris and verruca plantarus?
Warts on the finger/body and foot
How are verruca vulgaris and verruca plantarus transmitted?
Virus (HPV)
Verruca vulgaris and verruca plantarus management
Most resolve spontaneously in two years
- Topical salicylic acid
- Cryotherapy (multiple treatments)
