EXAM #1: CHAMBER ENLARGEMENT Flashcards
What are the primary etiologies of atrial enlargement?
1) Mitral or tricuspid valve disease (reguritation= increased BV)
2) Ischemia
3) HTN
What is a LA conduction abnormality called?
“P mitrale”
Previously thought that the cause was ALWAYS mitral valve disease
What is a RA conduction abnormality called?
“P pulmonale”
Previously though the cause was ALWAYS pulmonary valve disease
What are the characteristics of RAA?
Tall/peaked p-waves in II and V1 (0.25mV)
What are the characteristics of LAA?
II= broad (greater than 0.12sec) and notched V1= Biphasic or monophasic p-wave (wider and deeper than 1 box)
What are the two etiologies of ventricular enlargement?
1) Hypertrophy
2) Chamber dilation
What are the criteria for RVH?
1) Tall right precordial R-waves (abnormal R-wave progression)
2) RAD
3) T-wave inversion in right precordial leads*
With normal QRS duration, ST depression with UPWARD convexity and T-wave inversion
What are the criteria for LVH?
1) S-wave in V1 + R-wave in V5 or V6 greater than 35mm
2) R-wave in aVL greater than 11mm
