Aerobic Ex’s Type
- avoid orthopedic stress
- (walk, stationary bike, H2O exercise etc)
- Rhythmic
- large Mm groups
Aerobic Prescription Frequency
- moderate intensity: 30 min, 5days/week
- vigorous: 20 min, 3 days/week
Aerobic Ex’s Testing due to decr VO2 max
-start at low intensity 2-3 METS
Aerobic Prescription Intensity
- increased variability
- use Karvonen method
- reccommended 50-70% HRR
- RPE scale when HR not available
Elderly:
a. RHR
b. MHR
c. Resting BP
d. ex’s BP
e. max CO
f. residual volume
a. RHR: little/no change
b. MHR: decr
c. Resting BP: incr
d. ex’s BP: incr
e. max CO: decr
f. residual volume: incr
Aerobic Ex’s Testing Guidelines
- start low intensity (2-3 METS)
- longer warm up (2-3 min)
- design test to be done in 8-12 min
- incr need to monitor vitals (& EKG)
- bike test for EKG and balance pts
Aerobic Prescription time
- at least 10 min bouts
- incr duration instead of intensity (to prevent injury)
