Q

one limitation of free will from issues and debates

A

even the most basic experience of free will is determined via brain, psychologist found that from using brain scans the unconscious brain activity leading up to the conscious decision of flicking your wrist came half second before the participants felt they consciously had to move, this is a limitation of free will as it shows Free will is just illusion and everything is already determined, however just because the action comes before the conscious awareness of deciding to act it does not mean there was no decision to act, it is just a decision took time to read consciousness

Q

one limitation of determinism from issues and debates

A

The position of the legal system as responsibility, a legal system does not advocate for determinism and is based on free will so in both the real world and legal system, determinism does not work as individuals choice is the cause of behaviour, this is a limitation of determinism as if determinism did occur in the legal system it would suggest that the defendant had no free will in committing his actions which implies that the offenders are then technically not responsible for the actions

Q

one strength of determinism from issues and debates

A

A strength is that it has helped establish psychology as a science and has produced many effective real world applications, for example the biological approach which advocates for hard determinism and biological determinism has made connections with neurotransmitters to depression which has brought us drugs in order to treat this, this has made a huge impact on modern day society especially those who suffer from depression
