Introduction to ethnicity
A
- equal opportunities to participate in sport should exist for all racial or ethnic groups in society. Such Equality is not yet a reality due to many factors such as racism
- racism can lead to discrimination i.e. unfair treatment/acting on a prejudiced due to the race/skin colour etc

A
- conflict with religion/cultural observations
- discouragement – higher value placed on education rather than sport
- fear of racism/prejudice/discrimination
- fear of rejection/low levels of self-esteem
- stereotype/channelling into certain sports and away from others
- language barriers

Solutions to ethnic groups participation
A
- Training more ethnic minority coaches/teachers
- insuring single – sex provision e.g. for Muslim women
- publicising and punishing racial abuse
- improve PA provision for ethnic preferences e.g. relaxing kit rules
- organising campaigns against racism e.g. ‘kick it out’

- lack of role models as participants/coaches/positions of responsibility in sports organisations

- more women working – increased disposable income
- shared domestic responsibilities
- improve the childcare provision
