what are the external factors?
linguistic skills, family structure, attitudes and values, material deprivation.
what are linguistic skills?
some pupils speak a different language or an informal version of english.
what is family structure?
higher rates of lone parent families in black ethnicities. moniyhan found that they are headed by women more than men which leads to lower achievement as they have no male role model.
what are attitude and values?
black pupils have a fatalistic outlook on life. this means they look for immediate gratification rather than being patient.
what is material deprivation in this context?
many of them are victims in wider society which means indirect or direct discrimination at institutions. means low pay or unemployment. affects childs educational oppurtunities.
