Altruism
individual’s ability to place the needs of others before their own
Equality
The desire to promote fairness in interaction with others
Freedom
the desires of the client must guide the intervention
Justice
relating in a fair and impartial manner to individuals with whom they interact and respect and adhere to the applicable laws and standards regarding their area of practice
Dignity
treating each client respectfully and as an individual by enabling the client to engage in occupations that are meaningful, regardless of level of disability
Truth
in all situations, OTs, OTAs, and OTSs must provide accurate information, both in oral and written form
Prudence
use of clinical and ethical reasoning skills, sound judgement, and reflection to make decisions within OT practice

Beneficience
demonstrate concern for the wellbeing and safety of recipients of OT services
Nonmaleficence
intentionally refrain from actions that cause harm
Autonomy/Confidentiality
respect the right of the individual to self-determination (ie. right to refuse services, HIPAA compliance)
Social Justice
provide services in a fair and equitable manner
Veracity
provide comprehensive, accurate, and objective info when representing the profession (accurate documentation, avoid plagarism)
Procedural Justice
comply with institutional rule, state, local, federal, and international laws and AOTA documents applicable to the profession of OT (ie. following reimbursement guidelines for payor sources, learning laws and regulations that govern OT practice)
