How do researchers deal with informed consent?
including the alternative forms of consent
By making PPT aware of all the aims and how data will be used.
Alternative methods are;
1- Presumptive consent
2- Prior general consent
3- Retrospective consent
Explain what the alternative forms of consent are/mean
1- Presumptive consent (a similar group of people asked if the study is acceptable if so consent is assumed)
2- Prior general consent (ppt agree to now know the full aims of study)
3- Retrospective consent (ppt asked for consent after the study)
How do researchers deal with deception? (4)
1- Tell PPT the full aim
2-give PPT the right to withhold data
3- do a cost-benefit analysis
4-Get retrospective consent
How do researchers deal with Protection from harm?
1-Give PPT rights to withdraw whenever
2-Do a cost-benefit analysis
How do researchers deal with confidentiality?
1-Anonymity, don’t record personal details
2-Questionnaires kept anonymous
3- Avoid full names in case studies
4- Remind PPT data will be protected
What is the purpose of briefing participants at the start of the study?
.Tell PPT the full aim of the study
.what they’re expected to do and the . Give rights to withdraw at any point
What is the purpose of debriefing participants at the end of the study?
If the researcher doesn’t tell them at the start then will need to be told at the end to;
.get their consent
.give right to withdraw data at the end
