Definition
A
Benign: congenital (webs) or acquired from any esophageal injury: chronic reflux, infection, inflammation

Symptoms
A
Asymptomatic if small. If obstructive —> progressive dysphagia, first to solids then to liquids (unlike motility disorders)

A
- Long-standing GERD
- Radiotherapy
- Ingestion of corrosives
- Prolonged NGT

Diagnosis
A
Based on barium swallow
Endoscopy must be done to further assess the location, size, dispensibility, and biopsy to rule out carcinoma

Treatment
A
Endoscopic dilation + PPIs (if the cause is GERD); complication of procedure esophageal rupture —> pneumomedistinum
