ESM Flashcards
Name of ESM system
AN/ALQ-210
2 functions of ESM sys
electronic support
SA for EW threats via HTW
What is the MDL?
mission data load - effectively a library for the ESM system
What is the OFP?
operational flight program - actually runs the entire system based off the information it receives from the MDL
Two things that go into HTW?
Time and amplitude (amplitude gives it the “range”)
FOV for ESM antennas
100 degrees
What is used to determine emitter location?
long baseline interferometry
When is classified ESM data corrupted
2 min after loss of power or when commanded
What is ESM doing without an MDL?
Searching for 2 mx emitters
Max time for sys to load and start working
5-6 min
On startup, you get ESM fail, what do you do?
re init, give it 5-6 min then do esm trouble shooting procedure
Should you do test>auto on ESM?
probably not, will need to reset ESM and MC power
relationship between ESM and RWR?
same receiver so deconfiguring one deconfigures the other
can HTW tone be disabled for specific emitters?
yes
how many EOI
4
What does EOI do?
burns through declutter except HTW
Does ESM sector stop processing in that area?
no, just no reports except EOIs and HTW
What does SCAN Mod help us do?
Resolve ambiguities by giving us scan rate and scan type
Things to consider with scan mod?
Blocks htw and all other ESM best if emitter is on beam of a/c check the timestamp on the emitter to ensure it is still going default time is 10 sec May interrupt L16
4 reasons system will autolocate
MDL directed
operator requested
data fusion
ownship requested
Max number of location requests
16
threat levels
1 unknown 2 non threat 3 warning 4 imminent threat to surface platform 5 imminent threat to airborne platform
max confidence level of esm
95% (most will cap out at 94%)
How long does clear track take?
30 sec
Clear track and HTW?
Clear track blocks HTW
D-ESM and dense emitter environments
may slow the ESM system down
max number of operator entries
20
