Trust vs. Mistrust
Toddlerhood 12mo - 3yo
Autonomy vs. Shame & Doubt
Children learn to do things for themselves (walk, talk, toilet train).
Support builds confidence, while criticism creates doubt.
Preschool 3yo - 6yo
Initiative vs. Guilt
Preschoolers begin to plan, play, and lead
If they’re cheered on → Initiative develops
If they’re shamed → Guilt forms
School age 6yo - 12yo
Industry vs. Inferiority
Adolescence 12yo - 18yo
Identity vs. Role Confusion
Young adulthood 18 - 40yo
Intimacy vs. Isolation
Middle adulthood 40’s - mid 60’s
Generativity vs. Stagnation
Late adulthood mid 60’s - onward
