EPITHELIAL TISSUE UNIT 4 Flashcards
TISSUES composed of…..
Are composed of similar cells performing similar functions.
4 Types of Tissue
Epithelial, Muscular, Nervous and Connective Tissue
Epithelial Tissue
- Covers the outside of all organs and lines the inside of hollow organs.
- Makes up gland.
How is epithelial tissue defined?
Defined by the shape of the cell and the number of layers.
What are 2 common characteristics?
- Basement membrane
- Apical surface/ free surface
What are the different types of cells?
Simple, Stratified, Pseudostratified and Transitional
SIMPLE CELLS
1 layer of cells
STRATIFIED
2 or more layer of cells
PSEUDOSTRATIFIED
1 layer of cells that appears like more than 1 layer
TRANSITIONAL
Has many layers of cells. Cells flatten when structure stretches
3 Types of Shapes
Squamous, Cubodial and Columnar
Squamous…..
Thin cell
Cubodial…..
Square like cells
Columnar…..
Column like-tall cells
Where are simple squamous cells found?
Lungs
