Epithelial Tissue Slides Flashcards
What is a specific feature of tissues in the kidneys?
- renal tubes
- capillaries
- connective tissue
- columnar epithelium
- nuclei, basal pole, apical pole
- cuboidal stratified epithelium
What are special characteristics of the uterus of a cat?
- tubular glands
- vein
- artery
- 4 layers: serosa, muscle layer, mucosa, lumen
- connective tissue
Simple tubular glands (some simple branched tubular):
- Found in the uterus.
- Tube-like structure of the glands
- Have a secretory unit and a excretory duct where the secretion goes out in lumen.
- Surrounded by ciliated columnar epithelium.
What are the characteristics of human skin?
- squamous stratified keratinized epithelium
- hair follicle
- branched sebaceous (acinar) gland
- erectile muscle tissue (of the hair)
What are the main characteristics of the epidermis?
- stratified squamous keratinised epithelium.
- 5 layers:
stratum corneum,
stratum lucidum,
stratum granulosum,
stratum spinosum,
stratum basale. - connective tissue
- papillae of connective tissue
- excretory ducts of sebaceous glands
- artefacts
What are the main characteristics of the cornea?
- stratified squamous non-keratinised epithelium.
- connective tissue
- 3 layers:
stratum basale,
stratum spinosum,
stratum superficiale.
What are the main characteristics of the urothelium?
- TRANSITIONAL EPITHELIUM
- stretched and unstretched
Explain the intestinal tract.
- Pseudostratified epithelium
3 layers: basal, apical (surface) and intercalated. - connective tissue
- Have cilia at the apical domain which shows that it is in the intestinal tract.
- Cells are attached to the basement membrane and there is no top layer.
- Nucleus is NOT in a straight line.
- Unicellular glands, mostly goblet cells are present since they produce mucous secretion that makes it easier for the food to move.
Explain the layer surrounding the internal cavities.
- mesothelium
- cell borders
cell nuclei
What is the function of the finger-like projections of connective tissue in the epidermis? What is their name?
The finger-like projections of connective tissue are called papillae.
They:
- increase the surface area between the epithelium (dermis and epidermis) making it stronger
- increase the amount of exchange of oxygen, nutrition and waste.
