Epithelial Tissue Flashcards
What is Epithelial Tissue?
sheets of cells that cover body
forms much of the glandular tissue
supported by connective tissue
What is the Endothelium?
Lines the surface of the circulatory system
What epithelium lines blood vessels and body cavities and regulates the passage of substances into underlying tissue.
Simple squamous
Where is simple cuboidal found?
Usually in glandular (secreting) tissue and kidney tubules
Where is simple columnar found and what does it do?
Is specialized for absorption and usually has apical cilia or microvilli and found in the stomach and intestines. (Cilia and Microvilli)
What is the function of Stratified Squamous?
Usually has protective functions including against microorganisms from invading underlying tissue and/or water-loss protection.
What type of cell is the outer layer of the skin made from?
Stratified Squamous
What cell is found in the excretory ducts of salivary and sweat glands?
Stratified Cuboidal
This type of epithelium is seen in the conjunctiva of eyelids and is prtective AND mucus-secreting
Stratified Columnar
What epithelium lines your upper respiratory tract and usually has a lot of cilia
Pseudostratified Columnar
Transitional Epithelium is made up of what cells?
Several layers of cells that become flattened when stretched
Transitional Epithelium is found where?
Lines most of urinary tract and allows bladder to expand.
