EPC 44 - Workplace Safety & Hazards Flashcards
What four obligations must an electrical employer fulfil before allowing testing, fault finding or
commissioning on an energised low voltage installation?
Any four: A safe system of work is used, including;
(a) a risk assessment in respect to the tests;
(b) measures to eliminate or control the risk of inadvertent contact of energised parts (including safe work practices to minimise the risk of inadvertent contact if that cannot be eliminated);
(c) appropriate test equipment is provided and used by appropriately trained persons;
(d) appropriate personal protective equipment is provided and used; and
(e) if necessary to minimise a risk identified by the risk assessment, the tests are conducted in the presence of a safety observer. The safety observer must be competent in electrical rescue and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. The safety observer may assist the tester but must be aware of the hazards present.
What is the purpose of a JSA?
To Identify and List task / work hazards and to Identify and list Risk control measures.
With reference to AS/NZS3000, name TWO recognised hazardous areas.
(a) Gas or Vapour
(b) Dust
With reference to AS/NZS3000, how is it possible to reduce the degree of hazard?
Design and operation.
Clause 7.7.2.3
With reference to AS/NZS3000, name the standard that electrical equipment for use in hazardous area must comply with.
AS/NZS 60079.14. Clause 7.7.2.4.1
