Ampicillin (if susceptible)
Vanco (if PCN resistance)
VRE treatment
Daptomycin + ampicillin
OR
Linezolid

Gram positive bacillus, unencapsulated, nonmotile, nonspore forming
Infections associated with Corynebacterium
Nasopharyngeal and skin infections
Toxigenic if strains can produce systemic toxicity, myocarditis, and polyneurophay
Non-toxigenic strains produce cutaneous infections
Diagnosis of Corynebacterium Diptheriae
Clinical s/s plus lab confirmation must be reported to CDC
Treatment for Corynebacterium Diptheriae
Droplet precautions until 3 consecutive negative cultures after completion of therapy
Diptheria antitoxin must be obtained from CDC
Procaine PCN G 600000u IM q12
PCN V 250mg po QID x14 days
Erythromycin 500mg IV q6 hours
