ENT Flashcards
What is the purpose of the Weber and Rinne test?
This test differentiates whether a person is experiencing conductive or sensorineural hearing loss.
What are the possible outcomes of hearing loss with a Weber test that lateralize to the right?
The patient can either have conductive hearing loss on the right or sensorineural hearing loss on the left.
What are the possible outcomes of hearing loss for a patient with a Weber test that lateralize to the left ?
Conductive hearing loss on the left or sensorineural hearing loss on the right.
What does a positive Rinne test indicate?
That air conduction is good so we can rule out any causes of conductive hearing loss.
What are the cause of conductive hearing loss from the middle ear?
otosclerois, otitis media
What are the cause of conductive hearing loss from the external ear?
Cerumen impaction
What is an acoustic neuroma?
A tumor of schwann cells that aggregate at the cerebellopontine angle. Symptoms may include facial weakness and hearing loss.
This is a form of sensorineural hearing loss that tends to occur in older patients, the hearing loss and tinitus are usually bilateral.
Presbycusis

Hearing loss, vertigo, and tinitus that last from minutes to hours
Meniere’s disease
What cancer most commonly metastasizes to the brain?
