Describe the rules around the transition layer and QNH.

What about in very low QNH

A

Climbing through 13000ft (T altitude) 1013.2
Descending through FL150 (T level) area/zone QNH
Must not fly between the two levels (T layer)

If zone QNH is 980 or less lowest FL is FL160 due to inadequate separation between QNH/QNE traffic

W (track 180-359
M) even
NZFIR: N (track 270-089M) odd

What is RVSM airspace? What a/c is it applicable to? What happens if you are not RVSM equipped?

A

Reduced vertical separation minima from ICAO 2000ft to 1000ft.
Between FL290-FL410, applies to a/c that have AP that can level off, altitude alerter and enough altimeters.
If unable to comply RVSM and entering RVSM airspace, must inform ATC 30min prior to entry.
