What is the generic flight experience required for an ATPL license?
What flight experience is not required?

A

At least 1500hr in aeroplanes comprised of:

  • all dual instruction in aeroplanes (day/night, SE/ME)
  • all PIC experience in aeroplanes (day/night, SE/ME)
  • any command practice flight experience
  • 50% of all FO (as copilot) flight experience in aeroplanes in a/c required by AFM to have copilot

May not include:

  • PIC flight experience under supervision, nor can the supervisor designated as PIC (if SE a/c)
  • NZ does not recognise SO or cruise relief experience towards a higher license or rating

What are the eligibility requirements for an ATPL license?

A
  • Minimum 21 yr old
  • Hold a current CPL in appropriate a/c category
  • Hold a current IR
  • 1500hr total in aeroplanes (as previous card)
  • Valid ATPL exam credit in air law, flight navigation, flight planning, met, instruments & NAVAID, HF, advanced systems/aerodynamics/performance
  • XC IFR flight test in ME with MCTOW 5700Kg or more, or in ME acceptable to director, or approved synthetic flight trainer for ATPL flight exams

What are the privileges of an ATPL license?

A

The following are valid for the same a/c category of the pilots license and the a/c of the held type rating:

  • Any PPL/CPL privileges
  • Act as PIC of an a/c required to be operated with copilot and engaged in an ATO for hire & reward

What are the currency requirements for an ATPL?

When are some not necessarily required?

A

Current C1 medical
Current BFR (not required if flight instructor, ag pilot, OCA current)
90 day currency (3 T/O & L, competency A/B cat, pass flight exam).
-no day/night currency… if you have one you have the other.

Can you cross credit hours from other a/c categories for an ATPL license?

A
Yes!
You may take 1/2 PIC experience in the last 12m for the total 1500hr requirement (not for specific flight requirements) upto the max of the following.
Helicopters: 60hr
Gliders/powered gliders: 25hr
Combined: 60hr

What are the specific flight experience requirements for PIC hours for an ATPL?

A

250hr in aeroplane as PIC including 100hr XC of which 25hr must be night.
Alternatively:
-250hr in aeroplane consisting of minimum 70hr PIC and 50% of command practice time (that meets x6 requirements)
-100hr PIC XC of which 25hr at night and to meet this requirement
—200hr XC as FO (copilot) in a/c required by AFM to have copilot will meet 100hr XC PIC requirement. May also form part of 250hr flight time required as above.
—50hr night XC as command practice (x6 conditions) would meet 25hr PIC night requirement. May form apart of 250hr flight time above.

What are the specific night and IT flight experience requirements for an ATPL?

A

Night: 100hr in aeroplane as PIC (SE/ME) or 100hr as copilot in a/c required by AFM to have copilot.
IT: 75hr total (inc approved simulators) which includes at least 50hr IFTin aeroplanes and you have an IR.
