Engine Start Flashcards
Not FFOD, which engine do we start first?
The #2 engine is started first
CAPTAIN AND / OR FIRST OFFICER ENGINE START TASKS?
- APU
- MANIFEST
- TAKEOFF DATA
- TRIMS
- TRANSPONDER
- SEAT BELTS AND SHOULDER HARNESSES
What to say? TAKEOFF DATA
FO: “THE PLANNED RUNWAY IS ( ), WITH A FLAP SETTING OF ( ). TAKEOFF WEIGHT ( ) POUNDS, RUNWAY CONDITION ( ). SPEEDS ARE ( ), ( ), ( ), ( ), THRUST SETTING ( ) NORMAL or (FLEX).”
CP: “SET LEFT.”
FO: “SET RIGHT.”
What happens if you don’t set up the trims to correct position?
EXCESSIVE ROTATION DURING TAKEOFF.
The FFOD FUEL FEED CHECK VALVE test requires which engine to start first?
Engine 1 prior to conducting the test. Engine 2 is started after the test, and prior to taxi.
What to check during starting engine?
- Check:
– Fuel flow rising
– N1 rotation
– ITT increasing
– Oil pressure increasing
– ED-2: L or R ENG START status message extinguished at 55% N2
– ED-2: IGNITION A or B advisory message extinguished
Engine parameters stabilize
NOTE - Do not exceed ____N1 for two minutes after start, or until all operating indications are in________, whichever is longer.
75%— normal range
FFOD FUEL FEED CHECK VALVE TEST, PART 1 200-700-900
After left engine start, FO:
L / R BOOST PUMP DESELECT / EXTINGUISH
Check:
* ED-1: R FUEL LO PRESS caution message
When two minutes elapse and the “R FUEL LO PRESS” caution message is still not displayed Next step?
dry motor the non-operating engine for a maximum of 30 seconds.
Why does the The “R FUEL LO PRESS” caution message is displayed during the dry motoring?
due to the reduction in residual fuel pressure.
Absence of the “R FUEL LO PRESS” caution message on ED-1 indicates?
the fuel feed check valve has failed in the open position.
When ground air conditioning is in use, ensure low pressure air has been disconnected prior to?
closing the MCD.
Can you start the both engines at the gate?
Both engines may be started at the gate with the jetway connected and the main cabin door open.
Starting both engine at the gate. What to communicate with the flight attendants?
The FA is advised prior to starting engines with the main cabin door open.
Explain the process of COLD WEATHER - ENGINE WARM-UP
when the airplane is cold soaked,
Before the first flight of the day,
the engines must be motored for 60 seconds and fan rotation verified before engine start
remain at idle until oil pressure reaches normal
After being cold soaked, the thrust reversers must be actuated until the deploy and stow cycles are less than five seconds (CRJ 200) or two seconds (CRJ 700/900), prior to departure.
