Energy 5.2 - Energy Efficiency [ARCHIVE] Flashcards
By Nate
What is energy efficiency?
Energy efficiency is a measure of how much input energy is converted into useful output energy.
What is wasted energy?
Wasted energy is a measure of how much input energy has been transformed into a form that is not useful.
What is useful energy?
The energy that has been transferred into something that contributes to the purpose of the object that requires that energy.
What is renewable energy?
Energy sources that are renewable are sources that are unlimited in supply and can be regenerated over and over again.
What are some examples of renewable energy?
Wind, Hydroelectric and Solar energy.
What is non-renewable energy?
Energy sources that are non-renewable are sources that are limited in supply and cannot be regenerated over and over again.
What are some examples of non-renewable energy?
Coal, natural gas, oil, and nuclear energy.
What benefits come from reducing energy consumption?
It reduces the amount of greenhouse gases are put into the atmosphere.
What do greenhouse gases do to our atmosphere?
It will increase the risk of global warming and climate change.
How do you calculate energy efficiency?
Useful output
——————— x 100
Input
What does the energy rating labels do?
They tell you the efficiency of the appliance (from a scale from 1-6 or 7-10 if it’s ‘super efficient’) to tell if your house will save energy and running costs.
What are some ways to make houses energy effecient?
Adding insulation, compact fluorescent globes, eaves over windows for shading, solar panels ect.to save energy.
