Cells 2.1 - Making thing bigger [ARCHIVE] Flashcards
What does the eyepiece/ocular lens do?
Lets us see the image magnified
What does the objective lens do?
capture light emitted or reflected by the specimen.
What does the iris diaphragm do?
Adjusts amount of light hitting the specimen
What does the coarse focus knob do?
Focuses the image on low magnification
What does the fine focus knob do?
Focuses the image on high magnification
What is the stage?
The place where the specimen is placed to be observed
What is a specimen?
The specimen is what you are going to observe with the microscope
What is an image?
The image is what you see through the microscope
What does the arm do?
Used for carrying the microscope
What happens to the field of vision as the magnification increase?
The field of vision decreases, gets smaller.
What unit is used when to measure microscopic objects?
Micrometre or µm, a micrometre is 1/1,000 of millimetre and 1/1,000,000 of a metre
What are the 2 types of electron microscopes?
The transmission electron microscope (TEM) and the scanning electron microscope (SEM)
How do you calculate total magnification?
Multiply objective and ocular lens power.
How many micrometres are in a millimetre?
There are 1000 micrometres in a millimetre.
