Name the particles that make up all matter.
Atoms.
List four properties of metallic elements.
Lustrous, solid at room tempertaure (except Mercury), conductors and malleable.
What does “ductile” mean?
Metal that is able to be stretched into a wire.
What does “malleable” mean?
Metal that is able to be bent or hammered.
What does “brittle” mean?
Metal that is able to break or crumble.
Why do metallic elements bend, while solid and non-metallic elements break or crumble?
The atoms in a metal are malleable, therefore, can be bent and squashed, while non-metals cannot.
Why would you use graphite wires instead of gold or copper wires to conduct electricity in very hot situations?
Because graphite will not overheat and melt in extreme hot temperatures.
