Endoscopy Flashcards
1
Q
What is endoscopy? How is it used for speech
A
Rather invasive method that examines the interior surfaces of an organ or tissue
- observes vocal fold function + vibration
2
Q
Why is endoscopy useful in speech studies
A
- visualizes V.F. structure + movement
- Diagnosing pathologies affecting voice quality
- Assessment of effectiveness of vocal treatments
3
Q
Purpose of the strobe light
A
shows a slow pulsing/vibration but better demonstrate the actual movement than given by the darkness
4
Q
rigid endoscopy
A
- HIGH quality images; just for easier observations but not really active
5
Q
flexible endoscopy
A
Dynamic assessment; better for observing V.F.s during SPEECH or SINGING
6
Q
Describe the general idea of using an endoscope
A
- endoscope goes in mouth
- light at the end + camera helps to look at V.F.s and their movement
- Images displayed on monitor
