Endocrine System Signaling Flashcards

1
Q

What are the three main types of endocrine system signaling and what is the main difference between the three?

A

Autocrine, paracrine, and endocrine.
Autocrine acts on the cell secreted the signal molecule.
Paracrine acts on local cells. Small distance
Endocrine acts on distant cells, usually using the circulatory system to get around.

Q

Explain feedback inhibition?

A

The target tissue or cell releases factors/molecules that then go back and turn off or turn down the gland that is responsible for the signal to the target cell.

Q

What are 4 main ways to disturb the normal activity of the endocrine system?

A

Don’t produce enough hormone
Can’t release it
Produce too much
Hormone doesn’t interact normally with target cells.
