Endocrine system Flashcards
How is urea removed from the system?
It is released from the liver cells and travels through the circulatory system to the kidneys which removes it
What is the role of the kidney nephron and function
A kidney nephron is a system that creates urine and processes it in the kidney
What is the fancy term for a cold blooded creature?
Ectotherm
What is the proper name for a warm blooded creature?
Endotherm
What can fluctuate in a cold blooded creature like a bearded dragon?
Body temperature
What does an endothermic creature work hard to do?
Keep optimal body conditions (the same body temperature)
What is negative feedback?
When a variable triggers a counteracting response in order to return to it’s normal condition
Give an example of negative feedback…
Keeping your body at the same temperature
Regulation of glucose
Give an example of positive feedback…
Giving birth
What is positive feedback?
Instead of giving a counteracting response to a variable, you intensify the variable (increase) it.
Why’s it important that we understand the positive and negative feedback systems
So that we can understand what’s going on when there’s a problem with them.
Where’s negative feedback mainly used?
In homeostasis
Where’s positive feedback used?
In other bodily processes
One example of a problem with the feedback loop system
Type 1 diabetes:
Pancreas doesn’t work properly so insulin doesn’t get produced
Why does the pancreas not producing insulin create a problem?
Because your body needs insulin to perform cellular respiration meaning that your body can’t perform this process.
