Endocrine and Autonomic Nervous System Flashcards
What systems are primarily responsible for Homeostatis
Autonomic Nervous system and Endocrine system
What is the difference between an exocrine and endocrine gland?
Endocrine are ductless glands go straight into the bloodstream. Exocrine glands go through a duct and are dumped onto an epithelial membrane
What is a tropic hormone?
A hormone whose target is another endocrine gland
What is a negative feedback loop?
The end product of a pathway turns off its own production
What do Alpha cells of the pancreas produce
Glucagon
What do Beta cells of the pancreas produce
Insulin
What do Delta cells of the pancreas produce?
Somatostain (GH inhibiting hormone)
What does somatostatin do when blood sugar goes up?
It increases.
What is a chaperone protein?
A protein the helps a hormone inside the cell nucleus
Where do lipid soluable hormones bind?
Inside the cell nucleus
What are the functions of the receptors for lipid soluable hormones
Transcription factors
Where do water soluable hormones bind?
The outside of the cell membrane
