Endocrine Flashcards
What does the hypothalamus do
Production of ADH oxytocin and regulatory hormones
What does the pineal gland do?
Melatonin
What does the pituitary gland do?
Letters and release oxytocin and ADH from posterior lobe
What does the adrenal cortex release?
Cortisol
What is direct communication?
Through gap junctions, small irons and salutes
What is paracrine communication?
Through extracellular fluid
What do hormones bind into?
Receptors in skeletal muscle tissue, not neural tissue
What are the three types of hormones?
Amino acid derivatives peptide hormones and lipid derivatives
What are the lipids soluble hormones?
Catecholamines thyroid hormones, steroid hormones,
What are the water soluble hormones?
Glycol proteins short polypeptide and small proteins
What are amino acid derivatives?
Small molecules structurally similar to amino acids
What are peptide hormones?
Consist of chains of amino acids, the largest class of hormones
Where are steroid hormones and thyroid hormones receptors?
Inside the cell
What happens to free hormones after secretion?
Remain functional for less than an hour behind to target cells receptors are broken down in the liver or kidney by enzymes in plasma
How was the endocrine system regulated?
Controlled by hypothalamus and pituitary glands
