What is a hard capsular end feel?
Hard or firm thicker feeling than normal tissue stretch (abrupt onset after smooth movement)
Where is a hard capsular end feel seen?
Chronic conditions
+ capsular pattern
What is a soft capsular end feel?
Boggy, soft, mushy accompanied by joint effusion (stiffness early in range and increases until end range)
Where is a soft capsular end feel often seen?
Acute conditions
What is a muscle spasm end feel?
Sudden and hard dramatic resistance to movement accompanied with pain (guarding to protect injury)
Where is an early muscle spasm end feel seen?
Early in range with inflammation (acute conditions)
Where is a late muscle spasm end feel seen?
Near end range and seen in joint instability (protective spasm to prevent dislocation)
What is an abnormal bone to bone end feel?
Hard, unyielding sensation similar to normal bone to bone
When does restriction occur in abnormal bone to bone end feel?
Before normal range and is expected (osteophyte formation)
What is a springy block end feel?
Firm similar to tissue stretch
When does restriction occur in a springy block end feel?
Before normal range and is expected (usually has a rebound effect like a meniscus tear)
What is an empty end feel?
End feel could not be performed because of too much pain present
