Elbow Ligaments (2) Flashcards
What are the ligaments of the elbow?
Ulnar collateral ligament
Radial collateral ligament
Annular ligament
What are the types of pathologies present in the elbow?
Ulnar collateral ligament injury
Posterolateral rotatory instability
Elbow dislocation
What is the mechanism of injury for the ulnar collateral ligament?
Valgus force
Repetitive stress of UCL (overhead athletes)
Traumatic Foosh
Dislocation
What is the presentation of someone with an ulnar collateral ligament injury?
+ tenderness to palpation ulnar elbow
+ valgus stress test
+ moving valgus stress test
What is the mechanism of injury of the posterolateral rotatory instability?
Combination of axial load, valgus force, and ER or supination of forearm in relation to humerus
What are the chief complaints in posterolateral rotatory instability?
Mechanical symptoms of instability
Pain at radial collateral ligament
What are tests done for posterolateral rotatory instability?
Radial collateral tenderness
Posterolateral rotatory drawer test
What are the stages of dislocation?
Stage 1- RCL disruption and posterior subluxation
Stage 2- anterior capsule disruption and Coronoid process perched on trochlea
Stage 3- posterior capsule disruption, UCL disruption, elbow dislocates
How long should the elbow be immobilized?
No longer than 3 weeks
How much extension of the elbow is required for full function?
0-30°
What are special tests for lateral epicondyalgia?
Cozens test
Mills test
Maudsleys test
Tendinosis
Chronic
Tendinitis
Acute
