Pharmacology and presentation of Tramadol?
A
50mg PO
Tramadol is an analgesic with multiple CNS effects such as opiate receptor stimulation, and the inhibition of serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake.

Indicators of Tramadol?
A
- Age greater than or equal to 12 years with moderate to severe pain, usually in combination with paracetamol and ibuprofen. Particularly if unable to administer fentanyl/ketamine

Contraindications of Tramadol?
A
- Known severe allergy

Cautions of Tramadol?
A
- Tramadol taken within the last 4hrs, unless less than the ambulance prescribed dose
- Abdominal pain particularly if unwell or vomiting
- Age greater than or equal to 75, particularly if patient has a history of dementia/confusion; as anticholinergic effects may cause confusion
- Confusion, as anticholinergic effects may cause confusion
- Pregnancy

- Nausea and vomiting
- Lightheadedness or unusual feeling
- Dry mouth
- Sedation
