50mg PO

Tramadol is an analgesic with multiple CNS effects such as opiate receptor stimulation, and the inhibition of serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake.

Indicators of Tramadol?

A
  • Age greater than or equal to 12 years with moderate to severe pain, usually in combination with paracetamol and ibuprofen. Particularly if unable to administer fentanyl/ketamine

  • Known severe allergy

Cautions of Tramadol?

A
  • Tramadol taken within the last 4hrs, unless less than the ambulance prescribed dose
  • Abdominal pain particularly if unwell or vomiting
  • Age greater than or equal to 75, particularly if patient has a history of dementia/confusion; as anticholinergic effects may cause confusion
  • Confusion, as anticholinergic effects may cause confusion
  • Pregnancy
