A
- perception of a stimulus leads to bodily changes
- the peripheral responses feedback to the brain via the thalamus and lead to a perception of the emotion

-facial movements lead to different emotional perceptions

- on perception of a stimulus, the thalamus coordinates signal to the cortex leading to a conscious experience
- the thalamus also sends signal to hypothalamus leading to physiological changes
- the thalamus is cardinal in emotional appraisal

Schachter-Singer labelling theory
A
- on perception of a stimuli, generalised arousal takes place. This is then interpreted as positive or negative and labelled appropriately according to situational cues
- also called 2 factor theory or juke-box theory
- if a label is not found then negative arousal occurs e.g boredom
