Steps for syncope treatment
A
- patient supine, legs up
- establish airway
- administer oxygen
- monitor BP, pulse, respiration
- if not revived use spirits of ammonia
- after 1-2 minutes not revived call 911

Basic life support steps
A
- patient in supine
- ask “are you ok?”
- if no response, call for nearby help
- CAB- compression, airway, breathing
- tilt head jaw up
- check for breathing
- check pulse at carotid
- if pulse but no breathing, do rescue breaths
- clear patients mouth with 2 fingers, 2 breaths
- check pulse after a few cycles. If no pulse begin CPR
- chest compressions
- one rescuer: 30 compressions 2 breaths
- 2 rescuers: one do compressions, the other give rescue breaths. Switch.

AED
A
- State indications for using AED- no pulse or breathing
- contraindications for AED- if patient is having a heart attack, if they have a medication patch or pacemaker, too much hair on chest, or if they are wet
- steps for operating AED- apply to chest, follow instructions from machine
- continue CPR until help arrives
