Emergency Procedures Flashcards
Whose job is it to create a contingency plan?
The remote PIC.
What should contingency plan include?
Determine alternate landing site.
Communicate with ATC
Plan for parking and control station location.
Minimize risk to other aircraft
Think through flight termination, a deliberate process of controlled flight to the ground.
Think through lost link procedure.
Think through flyaway procedure.
How long before flying must the flight crew abstain from alcohol?
8 hours
What is considered operating under the influence?
A BAC of .04 or greater.
Are over the counter drugs okay?
Not if it says do not operate heavy machinery. Any drug that affects mental or physical capability, regardless if given by a doctor.
When is a crew person fatigued?
When that person is tired to a degree that is an impaired state.
Where should stress management begin?
At home.
What are some causes of a lost link?
Frequency Interference
⁃ Poor GPS Signal
⁃ Inflight Fire
⁃ Control Link Interruption
What is the definition of a lost link?
Loss of link between control station and UAS preventing control
⁃ Performs a pre-set procedure, from manufacturer
⁃ Procedure ensures
⁃ Ensures predictable
⁃ Auto-lands
⁃ Terminates flight when power depleted
Is a lost link an emergency?
No, it is an abnormal event. It does not need to be reported.
Should a lost link be part of a contingency plan?
Yes, always.
What is a flyaway?
Starts as a lost link, prevents control, and as a result the sUAS is not operating in a predictable manner.
Is a flyaway an emergency?
Yes. It must be reported to the ATC. And later to the FAA.
What can cause an airborne fire?
Thermal runaway of a lithium battery
How can you reduce likelihood of thermal runaway? Give at least three ways.
Don’t purchase counterfeit batteries. Put in a protective pouch. Don’t allow spare batteries to come into contact with metal. Take steps to prevent crushing or puncture. Create a routine maintenance schedule.
