What is included in the primary emergency survey
TPMR - temperature, pulse and quality, MM, CRT, respiratory rate/effort
Fast scanning
BP
Pain assessment
allows decisions on pain relief and fluid therapy before further assessment
What is included in the secondary patient survery
blood glucose
ketometer
EPOC/iSTAT - machines give a lot of information
PCV/TP - septic often hypoalbuminaemic
Auscultation for arryhtmias/murmurs if not done already
Brief neuro exam
ECG
What is in the tertiary patient assessment
history
full clinical exam
imaging
full blood tests
any other investigation
collapsing patients
often normal at presentation
DDx - collapse, weakness, cyncope, fainting, fitting, seizures etc
history/description vital - video ideal
syncope defintion
sudden short lived loss of consciousness
clinical signs of syncope
sudden onset
generalised weakness/ataxia
flaccid collapse
loss of consciousness
