Q

For how long after emergency treatment for suspected anaphylaxis should patients be monitored?

A

Adults / > 16 yrs = 6-12 hrs
if < 16 = should be admitted under the paediatric medical team

If possible should have blood taken for mast cell tryptase testing. 1st sample as soon as possible after emergency treatment has been given, then 2nd sample after 1-2 hours

Should then be offered an allergy referral and an Epipen in the interim
