Limited transport meant that local games where held in single villages and that popular recreation was specific for each community. Also meant there may have been limited facilities.
illiteracy and lack of education meant that games that they played was very basic and meant that there was little rules and no officials. This lead to violent games and a free for all

Mob football is an example of an activity played in pre industrial Britain which was played by the lower class,and showed the division in society. It was a localised form of activity and was played in the fields using natural resources. It was very male dominated,little rules,very violent and played on holy days.
What is a patron?
A patron is a member of the gentry who looked after the lower class performer,.eg by arranging competitions for them to participate in,putting up prize money and generally looking after the welfare of the performer.
