Embryology 3 Flashcards
At what week does the diverticulum (Laryngotracheal groove) appear?
4th
The lung buds penetrate into which mesoderm? What does the mesoderm then turn into?
Visceral splanchnic mesoderm; visceral pleura
How is the parietal pleura formed?
From the somatic mesoderm
What are the five stages of lung differentiation
Embryonic Pseudoglandular Canalicular Saccular Alveolar
What forms from the septum transverse?
Tendinous part of diaphragm
What is formed from the two pleuroperitoneal membranes and peripheral body wall muscle?
Muscular part of the diaphragm
What forms from the mesentery of the oesophagus?
Crura of the diaphragm
What process occurs in the third week of development and gives rise to primitive gut tube?
Folding on embryo; gut tube formed from endoderm
What is tracheoesophageal fistular and atresia?
Fistula - abnormal or surgical made passage between a hollow or tubular organ and the body surface (common congenital abnormality)
Atresia - a condition in which an orifice or passage in the body is abnormally closed or absent
Where is the septum transversum initially located in the embryo?
Opposite somites C3-5 and then migrates caudally during development of diaphragm
When the septum transverse migrates caudally what structures does it bring with it?
Spinal nerves C3, 5 and 5
Where does a Bochdalek hernia occur?
Posteriolaterally on the abdominal diaphragm
Where does a Morgagni hernia occur?
Anteriorly on the abdominal diaphragm
What types of hiatal hernia are there?
Sliding and paraesophageal (rolling)
