Embryology Flashcards
Name the 3 primordial germ layers
Ectoderm, mesoderm, endoderm
What layers does the mesoderm divide into?
Splanchnic, coelom, somatic (in that order)
What primordial germ layers forms the primitive gut? and what arises from this
Endoderm, a tubular structure containing the foregut, hindgut, midgut
Which of the midgut, foregut, and hindgut are blind, for the one that isn’t, what is it connected to?
Fore/hindgut are blind, and midgut forms a connection with the yolk sac
List some organs that arise from the foregut.
Stomach, oesophagus, pharynx, liver, pancreas, proximal duodenum
List some organs that arise from the midgut.
Jejunum, ileum, caecum, ascending colon, proximal part of transverse colon, duodenum (distal to bile/ pancreatic ducts)
List the organs formed by the hindgut.
Distal part of transverse colon, descending colon, rectum, proximal anal canal
What artery supplies the formation of the hindgut organs
Caudal mesenteric artery
What artery supplies the formation of the midgut organs.
Cranial mesenteric artery
What artery supplies the formation of the foregut organs.
Coeliac artery
Within the digestive tract, what does the ectoderm become?
Epithelia (oral cavity, anal canal - outer region), teeth, nerves, skin
Within the digestive tract, what does the mesoderm become?
Lamina propria, submucosa, muscle layers, serosa/ adventitia, blood/ lymph vessels
Within the digestive tract, what does the endoderm become?
Mucosal epithelium, mucosal glands, liver and pancreas (glandular regions only)
Do the cranial and caudal regions of the digestive tract differentiate into organs earlier?
Cranial
Does the circular or longitudinal layer of muscle develop before (within the tunica muscularis)?
Circular (think c comes before l in alphabet)
