Elements, Atoms And Compounds page 76-84 Flashcards
What is an element?
An element is a substance that cannot be broken down into other substances.
How many elements exist naturally?
There are 92 elements that exist naturally.
What is a periodic table?
The periodic table lists all the elements. In the periodic table elements with similar properties are grouped together.

A chemical symbol is a one- or two- letter code for the element.
What is an atom?
An atom is the smallest part of an element that’s can exist
What is a compound?
A compound is a substance made up of atoms of two or more elements. The atoms are strongly joined together.
What is a molecule?
A molecule is a group of two or more atoms strongly joined together.
What two types of gases are at room temperature?
Hydrogen and oxygen are both gases at room temperature.
How many types of atom make up one carbon dioxide molecule?
A carbon dioxide molecule has one carbon atom and two oxygen atoms.
How many types of atom make up one carbon monoxide molecule?
A carbon monoxide molecule has one carbon atom and one oxygen atom.
What is a chemical formula?
A chemical formula shows the relative number of atoms of each element in a compound - ‘relative number means how many of one type of atom there are compared to another.
