Electrochemistry Flashcards
How can electricity be produced ?
By connectons 2 different metals together, with an electrolyte, to form a simple cell
What do electrons flow from?
The metal higher in the ECS to the metal lower in the ECS through the wires
What is an electrolyte ?
An ionic liquid liquid which conducts electricity
To make electricity , what are the 4 things you need ?
An electron donor
An electron acceptor
Wires to connect them
An electrolyte to complete the circuit
What can be said about metals which are further apart in the ECS ?
Larger voltage
How did scientists create the ECS ?
By comparing the voltages produced between different pairs of metals
What is electricity ?
A flow of charged particles (either electrons or ions)
How can electricity be produced when making complex cells ?
By connecting 2 different metals in solutions of their ions in half-cells
What does an ion bridge do?
Complete the circuit
What doe electrons travel through ?
Wires
What do ions travel through ?
Ion bridge
How else can electricity be produced (not simple cell or complex)?
In a cell where one of the half-cells contains non-metal ions
